about the program

Sri Krishna Madhuryam

Bhagavata Purana or simply Bhāgavatam is the most sacred & celebrated text of Hindu literature in Sanskrit that is known as the Puranas. It is full of stories which sing the praises of the life of Lord Krishna from his birth in prison cell to moving across river Yamuna during the heavy downpour; to his growth of every stage at Gokulam, his antecedents at Vrindavan to the Great battle of Kurukshetra and more………. It is also the source for many of the popular stories of Krishna's childhood told for centuries in the Indian subcontinent.

The Bhagavata declares itself as the essence of Vedanta (the sacred scriptures of India based on the Vedas which affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions)

"The Srimad Bhagavatam is the very essence of all the Vedanta literature. One who has enjoyed the nectar of its rasa never has any desire for anything else." (12.13.15)

Krishna, one of the most popular and most widely revered of all Indian divinities, worshipped as the eighth incarnation of the Hindu God Vishnu - has been an enigma to some but God to millions, who go ecstatic even as they hear his name.

“Sri Krishna Madhuryam” is a journey tracing the mystical life of Krishna through music and dance. Krishna has influenced the Indian thought, life and culture in myriad ways. He has influenced not only its religion and philosophy, but also into its mysticism and literature, painting and sculpture, Indian folklore and quite expansively the music and dance scene.

Dr Vasundhara Doraswamy has creatively used various key episodes from Krishna’s life, using music in different Indian Languages and intertwined them to narrate these tales, bringing out the sweet nectar of joy whilst showcasing what really is the Spirit of India - “Spirituality” or “Bhakti”.
